Let’s talk wedding trends for 2023…

Fashion

  • Rock The Boat Fashion – Stepping away from wearing traditional white with borrowed blue to embracing worldly wedding cultures including colour schemes, fabrics, and dress forms. Brides are breaking away from traditional gender forms, walking down the aisle in tailor made suits and jump suits. Rather than being prescribed by conventional wedding trends, brides are free to match their wedding outfit, with their individual style.

  • The Grace Kelly Look – In 1956, Hollywood royalty, Grace Kelly became a real-life princess, when she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in Saint Nicholas Cathedral.

As the first live televised Royal wedding, over 30 million people were there to witness Grace floating down the aisle, adorned in intricately placed pearls, accented by hand stitched lace motifs, pleated silk and a 90-yard lace veil. This timeless look has continued to inspire bridal fashion throughout history, not only because of the iconic look but the moment in history when the worlds of Hollywood and royalty combined.

  • It’s All About The Groom – For Grooms, wearing a suit has been a tradition since the early 19th A Groom’s attire, was formally seen as clothing to compliment those of the Bridal Party, but no longer … Gone away are the customary blue, black and grey suits, paving the way for warmer, wine tones, including soft rose, dark purple and plum, cherry and burgundy. Or, if you are going for that boho chic vibe, earthy tones are the top of the trending list for 2023, with colours such as sand, caramel, and dark browns. Materials most desirable for this year are linen for the Summer, tweed for the autumn and velvet for the winter. Feel free to accessorise! Braces and bow ties are back, along with contrasting patterned waistcoats and pocket squares.
  • Step Away from the Uniform – 2023 truly is the year for individuality, not only for the happy couple but also for their groomsmen and bridal party. Rather than sticking to the “one dress fits all” approach (or suit for the boys if they prefer), give your party the fashion autonomy to create their own look, based on your chosen colour palette, which suits their personal shape and style.

The “BuddyMoon”

  • Have you ever attended a wedding, when you wished the celebrations would carry on and that 1 day just wasn’t enough to spend with your nearest and dearest. Couples are looking to keep the wedding vibes going, by hiring venues for serval days to make it an extended “BuddyMoon”. From wedding rehearsals to pre wedding welcome soirées, from after parties to post wedding brunches and barbecues. Even organising group trips near the location of their wedding venue. How would you like to keep the party going?

The Rise of the Celebrant

  • Continuing with the theme of tailor-made weddings, we saw the rise and boom of the Celebrant in the UK in 2022. Couples no longer wanted to be dictated by wedding licences, timings, and the constraints of religious and civil ceremonies. With the legal aspect of marriage taking place prior to the day of the wedding, Celebrants allow you the freedom to say your vows in a time, place and style that suits you. Could celebrants be the future of weddings?

It’s All About the Décor

  • One of the major trends we will see echoing throughout 2023 is the embracement of colour. Especially within the world of décor. Whilst the soft and demur neutral colour palettes will always be a staple of wedding design, many couples are focusing on creating those jaw dropping wedding backdrops, with the use of bold and beautiful colours and textures.
  • Top of the list for trending colour themes is Bohemian palettes of retro rust, burnt oranges and blush.
  • Dark, rich and moody colour schemes are taking over the pages of Instagram and Pinterest. These palettes include combining colours such as midnight blues, forest green, dark mauves, blood reds and deep purples with gold and black accents to create an enchanted, gothic, and glamorous vibe.
  • If you are all about creating drama, the monochromatic look is still rocking the world of weddings for 2023. Imagine walking into a room, encapsulated by a blanket of 1 single colour. The most popular monochromatic scheme is heavenly white. This look can be enhanced by using completely transparent furnishings including ghost chairs, plinths, and tables, with the decadency of hanging crystal chandeliers.
  • Pearls are making a massive come back this year and are the ultimate accessory for creating a timeless, classic glamourous wedding vibe. Whether you are going for a traditional or more modern aesthetic, pearls are the perfect way of combining bling and sophistication, that complement for every colour palette and wedding design. Pairing up elegant floral bouquets with glistening pearls, creates a truly imperial look. Introduce unique textural elements by adorning your wedding cake, centrepieces, and floral arrangements with these maritime jewels.
  • “Intentional Lighting” is the biggest trend to hit 2023 wedding décor. This involves using custom lighting to create a unique and beautiful atmosphere for your wedding. It can help you transform your wedding venue and make your wedding day more memorable and photogenic
  • Examples of intentional lighting are-
  • creating a canopy of festoon lighting or string lighting
  • hanging light fixtures including chandeliers and floral aerial light installations
  • taper candles for table decor to create a romantic glow
  • using pin spots, color washes, pattern projections and custom monograms to highlight certain elements and enhance the personalised aspect of your wedding

Cocktail Hour

  • Cocktail Hours were introduced into the UK from couples from across the pond. In the States, a traditional cocktail hour would be served after the ceremony as part of the Drinks Reception. However, back in Blighty, the cocktail hour was introduced as a trendy transition, between the Wedding Breakfast and the Evening Reception. Cocktail Hours can be personalised to include Mr and Mrs cocktail menus, incorporate live cocktail making masterclasses and flair bar shows. From self-pouring stations to cocktails luges, from alcoholic ice pops to margarita vans. Cocktail Hours become an event in themselves, being paired with entertainment such as lounge singers, lawn games, magicians, and caricaturists. The possibilities are endless!

Anyone For a Sten or Fox Party?

  • Stag and Hen Do’s have been a long-standing, pre wedding tradition for couples to individually let loose, and celebrate the last single moments with their best guy and gal pals. Numerous sources suggest that the 1st Stag Do dates to Roman times and was held in Sparta in the 5th Typically, celebrated separately for each gender, Stag and Hen dos often include and revolve around gender specific activities. Well… “When in Rome,” don’t do as the Romans do”! Make way for the Sten and Fox party.
  • A Sten Do’s is a Stag and Hen combined, which is perfect for couples that have overlapping friendship groups and want to double the pre wedding fun. Some Sten Dos will start out as Stag or Hen’s and come together at the end. Great activities for Sten Do’s involve competition between the genders, such as paintballing, inflatable game shows, Zorb footballing and escape rooms.
  • Whilst a Stag is classed as a male deer and a Hen is classed a female chicken, a fox is just a fox, regardless of gender. Fox Parties are simply about a change of language and a non-gender conforming mindset, which creates a feeling of inclusivity for couples and their party guest. Fox Parties are becoming incredibly popular for couples’ part of the LGBTQIA+ community who wish to have a gender-neutral vibe and break the barriers of stereotypical gender defined parties.
