Wedding dress trends Summer 2022

While it feels like Spring only began last week, Summer is already around the corner and with it another fashion cycle begins. Wedding dresses aren’t excluded from these seasonal changes so summer brides should keep an eye out for the latest season’s looks. Whether you’re a stickler for tradition or plan on having a beachside ceremony there’s something for everyone this year.

Lace

Brides with more traditional tastes have been neglected for far too long! This summer ‘lace is more’, with lace predicted to reappear this season, be it capped lace sleeves, lace trim or even full boho lace dress, the delicate and feminine fabric can be fitted to suit most cuts of dress and add that extra bit of detail if you’re worried about your dress feeling too plain, while still remaining classy and timeless.

Adjustable elements

Gone are the days of doing your first dance in a full ballgown skirt and tripping over your train at your evening do- detachable sections do away with having to worry about being dressed for the wrong situation! If you’re worried about a change of forecast, a removable capelet or loose sleeve can fix that. Want a full skirt down the aisle but something a bit shorter for your first dance, an overskirt can help you achieve that. Customisable weddings are in at the moment so its no wonder dresses would follow suit.

High Neck

For many brides their first reaction to the phrase ‘high necked wedding dress’ is either amusement or uncertainty, but this microtrend fits into the bigger trend for 2022 of unusual and flamboyant dresses, giving a stark Victorian look to your dress, especially when coupled with long sleeves and oversized sleeves. While this trend definitely won’t be for everyone, those that do will fall head over heels for this uncommon trend!

90s Minimalism

To counteract the unusual nature of the last trend, the return to 90s minimalism has much more widespread appeal. Particularly popular in celebrity weddings of the nineties, the very simple, form fitting satin, strappy shouldered and unembellished dress trend can be very figure flattering and avoid drawing attention away from yourself. Coupled with an ‘effortless’ hairstyle and candid photography you can really live out your 90s Hollywood wedding dream.

Corsets

While corsets have never truly gone out of style, they’re back in a big way this summer. With the advent of vintage, “cottagecore” aesthetics it’s only natural wedding dresses would mirror this trend. Combined with a full skirt you can create an exaggerated and attractive figure that’s straight out of a fairy-tale or the met gala.

These trends won’t be for everyone- especially not all at once- but they’re perfect inspiration to add to your pre-exisiting wedding plans and can add that little extra touch to pull everything together.
