Everything you need to know about beach weddings.
Beaches are normally reserved for your honeymoon, and far from a traditional wedding venue, but they make for beautiful, romantic locations. Still, because of their unconventional nature there a few extra things you must consider before your big day. Here’s a quick list of a few to think about before you book.
Do you have Exclusive Use?
Nothing could be worse than having unexpected members of the public gate-crashing your wedding! If you’re booking via a resort, make sure you have exclusive use of the beachfront you’re using in advance. Getting permission for public beaches is a bit trickier, but equally needs to be sorted well in advance of your big day
Check the forecast
If you’re going abroad for your wedding, it’s unlikely you’ll have to deal with rain- though it worth checking for anyway- but you may have to fight the elements in the form of wind or even too much sun! Ensure there’s plenty of shady and seated areas to keep your guests safe and do thorough research into the weather at that location, especially for the time of year you’re planning! Many hotter countries have rainy seasons or high-speed winds that may not have been mentioned on the brochure.
Dress for the occasion (have an evening dress)
While you absolutely can walk down your sandy aisle in a full white ballgown complete with tall sparkly heels, it’s worth trying to plan for your comfort too. Consider having a backup pair of flats in your bag in case the sand is too hard to walk on, or a second dress for your evening reception so you don’t overheat. You should also encourage your guests to pack a second outfit for later so you can get those fabulous wedding photos without too much pain!
Be mindful of your food
If there’s two things that don’t go together, it’s food and sand! If you’re dead set on having your food served on the beach too- instead of a secondary indoor location that’s relatively sand free- make sure you plan ahead; avoid sticky food, anything that needs keeping cold and messy food. If you’re dead set on something, however, be sure to provide plenty of wet wipes.
Make sure your guests forewarned (sunhats/glasses, sunscreen, bottled water)
As with the evening outfits, there’s several other amenities you need for a beach wedding. Either forewarning your guests or providing them with little ‘survival kits’ helps keep everyone happy and healthy. Water bottles, sunglasses and hat, sunscreen and fans are all must haves, and can easily be customised for that personal touch!
Consider having an indoor location too!
If all this sounds like too much stress for your wedding day, consider having an indoor location available too. Even if it’s only for the evening meal, or ceremony, it can greatly reduce the stress of planning to know you have an indoor location available too on the day.
